New Music Tuesday (Week of December 8th)

Chevonne, “Unwrap Me”

A unique take on the traditional holiday albums, Chevonne’s “Unwrap Me” is a four-track EP with topics ranging from a guy lighting her up “for eight days at a time (“My Menorah”) and in the track “Single Bells” she sings, “getting decked out because my man just checked out and gonna throw away his photo” and spend the holidays singing “Single Bells, Single Bells all the way and I’m not gonna cry a single day.” You can purchase Chevonne’s “Unwrap Me” for a recession friendly $4 on itunes.

Family of The Year, “Songbook”

Family of The Year’s “Songbook” is a melodic, soothing album. The song “Feel Good Track of Rosemead” is just that a feel good song about having to “keep on keeping on” and wanting to “party all the time.” Songs like “Stupidland” and “I Played Drums On This” stand out musically and should appeal to the alternative music crowd.

Fink, “Sort of Revolution”

British born singer-songwriter Fink is destined to take American audiences by storm with his latest release “Sort of Revolution.” The album consists of acoustic tracks such as, “The Apologist” and “Pills In My Pocket” along with electronic-folky tunes like, “Fences” and “See it All.” The titled track “Sort of Revolution” is a favorite among the other wonderful tracks.

KARNIVOOL, “Sound Awake” (Feb 16, 2010)

KARNIVOOL’s “Sound Awake” erupts within seconds of opening track “Simple Boy” and never looks back. Tracks like “Goliath” and “Umbra” are epic rock gems that weave complex lyrics with equally complex and epic sounding guitar riffs and stand out percussion. It’s clear that 2010 will be the year of KARNIVOOL.  Stand out tracks include: “New Day” and “All I Know.”
