Derek and The Darling, “Rockface”

“Rockface” is an impressive up-tempo debut from NYC based duo Derek and The Darling. The album is full of catchy electronic beats and choruses with sing-along potential (“Hustler with a Rescue Plan”). The two trade off singing duties and are able to shine in individual tracks like in the ballad, “You” where female vocalist Sammi Garett showcases her sweet vocals. However, on the track “Lucky Lola” where Sammi and Derek come together and harmoniously perform the infectious tune is where they hit one out of the park.

FlyinFisch, “FlyinFisch”

FlyinFisch’s self-titled fully self-produced debut album features the soulful styling’s of the multi-cultural singer. His usage of electronica and reggae beats blend well with his melodic voice. The lyrics are uplifting and convey a message of unity and hope. Tracks like “Three Years,” and “Keep On” are rooted in jazz and are the most radio-friendly tunes on the album.

Sweet Apple, “Love & Desperation”

Sweet Apple, features members of Dinosaur Jr., Cobra Verde and Witch, and together they bring us “Love & Desperation” a rhythmic, well-polished, catchy rock n roll album. “Do You Remember” is the pace setting opening track that will have you dancing it up whenever you may find yourself that moment. The 12-tracks fly by but songs like, “Hold Me, I’m Dying,” “Somebody Else’s Problem” and “Do You Remember” will have you hitting the replay button over and over again.
