New Music Tuesday (Week of July 6th 2010) LAMC Edition

In honor of this week’s Latin Alternative Music Conference we’ve decided to feature some album reviews from this year’s performers.

Los Punsetes, “LP2”

Madrid’s five-piece band Los Punsetes are poised to take over the US with their catchy second album “LP2” released in Spain on March 1, 2010. By means of the internet and old fashion word- of- mouth Los Punsetes have caught the eyes and ears of the Latin Alternative Music scene and beyond. The album is a 12-track collection of catchy Spanish language indie pop tracks and a DIY attitude. The writing is smart and lyrics speak to a post-Francoism generation all set to a melodic backdrop. Stand out tracks include, “Dinero” (Money), “De Moda” (In Style) and “Estilo” (Style).

Ana Tijoux, “1977”

Chilean hip hop artist Ana Tijoux showcases her rhyming abilities in US debut “1977.” She’s been setting the Latin American music scene on fire and continues to do so in this impressive 14-track homage to early 90s hip-hop. Her breathy vocals are on point and her swagger is undeniably cool. Her lyrical content are best showcased in tracks “1977” and “Crisis de un MC” and tackles relationships and her personal coming of age story. Ana Tijoux is a true storyteller.  Stand out tracks include, “1977,” “Crisis de un MC,”  “Problema de 2” and “Mar Adentro.”

The Pinker Tones, “Modular”

Musically diverse, boundary pushing Spanish electro-duo The Pinker Tones are at it again. Their latest release, “Modular” features sure fire hits like “Estirado al Sol,” “Tokyo” and “Sampleame.” The album features instrumental electronica as well as tracks in English and in Spanish. “Modular” is the type of album that’s sure to put you in a party mood or at least lift your spirits. Viva Los Pinker Tones!
